Walking In A Group
On the trail, a group requires a leader and a second-in-command. Whatever happens, the group must stick together. With a large group, the leader may wish to appoint a lead scout to go ahead and identify the best route. the second-in-command, who should be a strong walker, brings up the rear and ensures that slower walkers are not left behind.
The leader navigates and monitors his/her bearing every few minutes, stopping to look around for tracks, paths, markers, landmarks and any obvious dangers. The leader must also monitor the group for fatigue, injuries and ensures that the group maintains the pace and remains together at all times.
